I was on the 1 train yesterday in NYC and noticed a gentleman in front of me who had a high level IT network certificate badge on.

After waiting for him to finish his conversation I introduced myself and gave him my business card. He stopped a few stops later.

Then later in the morning he requested a quote.

Do you ever strike up a sales conversation that way? How do you identify a prospect? What etiquette do you apply?

well done!

about four or five years ago I was at a conference with a new employee - he had been hired to start a new division and I was shadowing him to help him build the groundwork. We had dinner plans and I was waiting in the lobby for him to come downstairs. There was another guy on a couch across from me waiting for someone, and we struck up casual conversation. When his boss came downstairs, he introduced me, and is now my biggest customer.

Great job Roy!

People complain about how hard sales is and it is but if you go beyond what everyone else does it becomes easier at times.

Worse case scenario for both of us is that the person would have said they weren't interested. Not the worse thing in the world. But imagine if we had not taken any action we would never have known what the end result would have been.

Why do you think they make movies starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan about these type scenarios?
